    Hand shapes: the four elements

Before looking at the lines, classic palmistry observes the overall shape of the hand and classifies it into four types, associated with the elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Each type describes a base temperament.

    Earth hand: practical and steady

Square palm and short fingers. The earth hand is associated with practical, realistic, hardworking people who trust the tangible and advance step by step. These are the hands of the builder: patience, consistency, and common sense as identity marks.

    Air hand: mental and communicative

Square or rectangular palm with long fingers. The air hand belongs, according to tradition, to intellectual, curious, communicative people. They live in the world of ideas: they analyze, converse, connect concepts. Their challenge is usually turning ideas into action.

    Fire hand: energy and drive

Elongated palm with short fingers. The fire hand relates to energetic, enthusiastic, quick-action people. They decide with instinct, get excited easily, and spread their energy. Their temperament is that of the initiator: natural leaders who prefer movement over waiting.

    Water hand: sensitive and intuitive

Elongated palm with long fingers, often with many fine lines. The water hand is associated with sensitivity, intuition, and empathy. These are people who perceive the emotional nuances of their environment and process the world through feeling. Their strength is understanding; their challenge, not becoming overwhelmed.
